Welcome to AW Meat House

A New Chapter at AW Meat House: Open, Rebuilding, and Moving Forward

When we first shared that AW Meat House was facing serious challenges, we promised our customers, producers, and community that we would be straightforward about where things stood. We want to continue honoring that promise.

AW Meat House is currently operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and restructuring. This court-supervised process allows us to address debt, reorganize the business, improve the way we operate, and work toward building a stronger, more sustainable company — all while continuing to serve our customers.

We are open. We are operating. And we are doing the work required to move forward.

Making Real Changes

Over the past several weeks, we have brought in outside strategic business support to take a hard look at AW Meat House from top to bottom.

That work includes strengthening:

  • Day-to-day operations
  • Financial controls and accountability
  • Policies and procedures
  • Staff training and development
  • Commercial sales
  • Producer and hunter relationships
  • Marketing and communications
  • Community events
  • New and existing sources of revenue

Our goal is not simply to get through a difficult period. Our goal is to build an AW Meat House that is more disciplined, dependable, and prepared to serve this region for years to come.

We know that rebuilding trust requires more than promises. It requires visible progress, consistent service, and measurable improvements. That is what we are working toward every day.

The Property-Sale Process

One part of the Chapter 11 restructuring involves a required sale process affecting the real estate and property.

We understand that this may raise questions about AW’s future. The process should not be mistaken for an announcement that AW Meat House is closing. We remain open and committed to serving our customers while the required process moves forward.

We are also having conversations with prospective investors and strategic partners who recognize the importance and potential of regional meat processing, retail, and food infrastructure. Any future transaction would be subject to applicable bankruptcy procedures, legal requirements, due diligence, and final agreements.

Why Regional Meat Processing Matters

The challenges facing AW Meat House are taking place during a period of significant change across the national beef and food-processing industries.

AW cannot solve a national supply-chain problem, but we can continue doing our part here at home by building stronger relationships with regional producers, expanding commercial partnerships, providing livestock and hunter-processing services, and giving families and businesses another dependable source for quality meat.

Many people remember what happened during COVID, when conventional supply chains struggled, and grocery-store meat cases became difficult to depend on. Regional processors and independent meat businesses mattered then, and they still matter today.

We intend for AW Meat House to become an even stronger resource for this community.

Building New Momentum

Rebuilding also means giving people new reasons to visit AW, work with us, and become part of what comes next.

Farmers Market

Our August Farmers Markets have introduced us to new vendors, customers, and community members while bringing local products and small businesses together in the AW parking lot.

We are currently considering additional Farmers Market dates as we move into hunting season. Those dates have not been finalized, but we hope to continue offering opportunities for local vendors and customers to come together. Additional dates and vendor information will be announced as plans are confirmed.

Feud for Good

On Saturday, September 19, AW Meat House will present Feud for Good: The Great Appalachian Challenge.

Built around the call to “Pick a Side. Make a Difference,” Feud for Good will bring together Appalachian pride, friendly rivalry and community impact for a full day of food, competition, entertainment and charitable giving.

At the center of the event will be the Feud for Good BBQ Competition. Teams will compete in ribs, pulled pork or pork shoulder, beef and chicken for cash prizes, bragging rights and the title of Grand Champion. The competition is being designed to welcome serious barbecue teams while still creating an exciting experience for the public.

Feud for Good is also expected to include food trucks, local vendors, live entertainment, public voting, family-friendly activities and opportunities for counties, businesses and community organizations to join the rivalry.

This is not simply another festival. Feud for Good is being created as a platform where competition can generate attention, participation and support for causes that matter to our region.

AW Meat House is currently welcoming conversations with prospective competitors, food trucks, vendors, sponsors and community partners interested in becoming part of the inaugural event.

Additional details, including competition registration, event hours, entertainment and the complete public schedule, will be released as each element is confirmed

The Doe Down

We are also launching the Doe Down, a team-based antlerless deer challenge benefiting Kentucky Hunters for the Hungry.

The purpose of the Doe Down extends far beyond competition. Qualifying deer will help provide locally sourced protein to Kentuckians facing food insecurity through the Hunters for the Hungry program. At the same time, the challenge will encourage responsible herd management and create another meaningful way for hunters, sponsors, and the community to get involved.

The competition will include:

  • The Most Qualifying Deer
  • The Big Doe
  • The sponsor-supported Empty Quiver Award for the most qualifying deer delivered at one time.

One hundred percent of team entry fees will fund the Most Qualifying Deer and Big Doe prizes, divided 60/40. The number of Most Qualifying Deer placements awarded will be based on the total number of registered teams.

Final qualifying deer drop-offs will be accepted through 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26th, with winners announced Sunday, September 27.

The Doe Down allows hunters to compete, contribute to responsible wildlife management, and help place quality protein on the tables of Kentucky families who need it.

This is a Rebuild

We know there are challenges ahead. We also know that AW Meat House has value to our customers, our producers, our hunters, our employees, and this region.

We are taking responsibility for what needs to be fixed. We are making changes. We are building new relationships and creating new opportunities.

We will continue communicating openly as this process moves forward, and we will let our actions, not promises, define AW Meat House’s next chapter.

We are still here.

We are rebuilding.

We are moving forward.
